When we handle a rough crystal, final carat weight is a secondary consideration – beauty conquers all.

These principles have guided the Asscher family dynasty throughout their 160 year history. It is the reason the family has been entrusted to turn some of the largest rough diamonds ever found, into some of the most famous diamonds in history.

Higher carat diamonds of exceptional quality are rare and their value reflects this fact.  For example, a 2 carat diamond does not automatically cost twice the amount of a 1 carat diamond of the same quality, the price rises exponentially. 

So many diamonds are sold by virtue of carat weight to service the popular belief that bigger is better. Often techniques are used to boost a diamond’s weight, but this can simultaneously ignore its innate virtues, ultimately this approach compromises the aesthetic integrity of the diamond.

A customer should always look to purchase the most beautiful diamond that they can afford, remembering that cut, rather than size, is widely acknowledged to be the most important contributor to a diamond’s beauty – and that carat weight alone does not determine a diamond’s value.
