Social Responsibility
Royal Asscher refuses to work with conflict diamonds. Conflict diamonds originate from war torn countries; they are unethically sourced and sold to fund warfare, violence and civil destruction. Royal Asscher only sources diamonds from nations that are fully compliant with the Kimberley process, a joint government, international diamond industry and civil society initiative to stop the flow of conflict diamonds. The Kimberley process requires that all diamonds are labeled by the government at origination point and security sealed during transportation.
The Asscher family actively campaigns for an ethically operating diamond industry. Edward Asscher, was one of the forefathers of the Kimberley Process; his pioneering work helped convince mining companies, governments and Non Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) to accept and use the Kimberley process.
The Asscher family strongly supports the continued strengthening of the Kimberley process.
Edward Asscher received a knighthood for his social and ethical work, becoming an Officer in the Order of Oranje Nassau in 1999.
