Meet The Designer
Meet Reena Ahluwalia. One of the very few jewelry artists in the world whose work has been featured in a postage stamp. With designs that never fail to push creative boundaries, Reena has won numerous top international and national awards for her creations. Some of her achievements are nothing short of extraordinary - iconic British fashion designer, Alexander McQueen featured Reena’s award-winning diamond piece in his Spring/Summer 2000 collection debut in New York. She was invited by the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to design a diamond setting for the first two mined diamonds from the Canadian province of Ontario. These diamonds have been set in the historic Mace of Ontario, a sceptre-like object that held a symbolic place in the regalia of the British Parliament during the 14th century.
Reena's creates jewelry that is flamboyant, harmonizing precision and geometry with fluidity and movement. Her signature style is renowned for its edgy but feminine, well-engineered fluid forms and innovative narratives told through suggestive imagery. An ambassador of arts and crafts, her quasi-nomadic lifestyle has enriched her thinking and enabled her to experience various cultures that help shape her cutting edge designs.
Royal Asscher Diamonds and Reena Ahluwalia
Working closely with the Asscher family, Reena is the designer behind its iconic "Stars of Africa" and "Shining Stars" floating-diamonds collections. Besides the two collections, Reena also creates custom pieces and one-off statement jewels for the brand.
Speaking on collaboration with Royal Asscher, Reena says, "When Lita Asscher and I met for the first time we instantly connected over our passion to produce extraordinary fashion forward, innovative jewellery where diamonds could be used for social development. Royal Asscher has a legendary history of innovation and an unblemished ethical record in the world of diamonds. As a jewelry designer, there is no greater motivation for me than to be able to contribute to positive social change through my art and the ideas it spreads. I am committed to using diamonds that are conflict-free in origin and ethical. Transparency is important to fulfill that commitment. Together, we share this vision."
Creative Process
"It’s all about what inspires us! Our creative process is one of the most thrilling parts of what we do. Starting from concept generation, establishing narratives, explorations, lots of sketching, model making, and experimentation, to eventually making the final jewels that take your breath away. Its amazing to work with Edward, Lita and Mike Asscher. We love all things diamonds. When it comes to design, art and our influences, we all speak our minds freely. That level of passion, involvement is part of our everyday life and shows in our jewelry lines. Design innovation takes time and we are committed to creating an extraordinary experience for all who love Royal Asscher through our creations." says Reena.
